Hooks (and needles) & books . . .

Two of the lovely gifts that I received for my birthday were the book "Cute & Easy Crochet with Flowers " by Nicki Trench, and some yummy yarn.  That was a whole month ago now, and I've been just dying to get stuck into both of them, but have willed encouraged myself to be disciplined and get some of my WIPs finished and out of the way first before I started something new.

Ok, so technically I still have an unfinished-as-yet crocheted shawl and an almost-finished-just-need-to sew-them-up pair of knitted socks in my basket, but I could resist no longer and a few days ago, my willpower caved.  Willpower really has never been my strong point.

see the pretty soft  pink socks there too ?

So, on my needles this week is a cabled cowl (just a pattern I made up as I went along
 - quite simple . . .  40 stitches with two 8 stitch cables in between)  and on my hook,
a pair of Fingerless Gloves from Nicki Trench's lovely book.

And whilst my fingers are busy with that, I'm enjoying my current Book Club read:  "The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul" by Deborah Rodrigues.  It's a novel, but gives an interesting touch of insight into life in Afganistan as the author used to live as an ex-pat in Kabul.

So today I'm linking up with Ginny at Small Things for Yarn Along

and also joining in with Chrissie at Chrissie Crafts & Marianne  at Ladybird Diaries for their Bloomin' Crochet-A-Long.

Do hop over and have a wee peek at what everyone else is doing with yummy yarn today.

Happy Thursday peeps . . .
xoxo

  2. The "Passion" yarn looks very luxurious & soft. I don't think there's anything wrong with having more than one (or three!) projects on the go at once, is there? If so, I think I'm in trouble!! The cowl looks lovely & warm :) Wendy x

  5. You are definitely disciplined, I have no resistance when wanting to start a new project hence why I am now hooking a hexagon blanket for the Bloomin' CAL but I know I can take it easy with that project and still work on others at the same time :) I am loving all the yarny goodness!

  19. Everything you are making looks gorgeous Gilly - I especially love the yarn for your cowl - and I think you did so well to hold off so long before jumping into that yummy yarn and book! I have four items on the go at the moment - two blankets that have been kinda forgotten temporarily (for months!), a cardi just started then a little mystery that I couldn't resist but that is taking a lot more doing than I'd expected. All fun though!
Happy days to you, hugs, Joy x

  28. Thanks for sharing that fabulous yarn and your new book. Hmmm, the book sounds interesting as well... so, I'm off to Amazon now to see if it comes in kindle format...
