There, I've said it. You can hold me to it.
This half-finished WIP has been curled up in my knitting bag, sitting patiently on top of the wardrobe in my craft room, looking down and watching me start and finish all sorts of other lovely projects. Waiting, hoping, that sometime, anytime, I'd reach up and turn it into the socks they are meant to be.
Seriously, I started these socks over a year ago. It really is about time I finished them, don't you think ? Ok, be honest now, all you crafty peeps out there: anyone else have a year-old WIP lurking somewhere ?
My friend Lee-Anne was visiting from Cape Town last year and we sat up into the wee hours watching the box set of Downton Abbey - Series 1, and knitting socks. Being a much whizzier knitter than I am, Lee-Anne finished a pair each for her one hubby and three kids, in the time she spent staying with us. And here I am a year later, still not finished this pair. (Hanging head in shame)
Lee-Anne & I have been best friends for what seems like forever. We met at Sunday School when we were just wee tots, and the rest is history. We've been on lots of holiday together over the years, and we share that joy of all-things-crafty so somewhere along the line it's become a tradition to have a holiday craft project. Last year it was the knitted socks, and with another get-together planned for the not-too-distant future, we're looking for ideas for the next one. As Lee-Anne still lives in SA and I in the UK, it has to be something portable and easy to pack in a suitcase.
So, any suggestions or ideas ? All are welcome - let's hear them !

I started a lace scarf at least two years ago. I decided it was too hard for me to concentrate on and I think I've given it up permanently. I try to finish projects pretty quickly unless they are too challenging or boring (rows and rows of brown blanket comes to mind!). Your socks, however, are cute. Won't it be nice when they are finished?

Never mind Gilly, they'll get done and think how good you'll feel when they are because they're going to be gorgeous! Love the bag ... I'v got one too! Was one of my great bargains because it had a mysterious stain - £10!

I have wanted to knit some socks recently but haven't even bought the wool yet! looking forward to seeing yours when you have finished it doesn't look that far off to me.

Oh you should definitely give them a try - they are good fun to knit. Just don't get distracted half way through like I have! ;-)

I tried to knit sock and it was a complete failure!! Keep going! They look so lovely!

ReplyDeleteI like your theory! You're right, it does keep things interesting! Just wish I had more will power to finish one thing before I start another... but perhaps that's just the way we crafty peeps are :-)

Hello, fellow blogger, so glad I found you. Having just taken up knitting this past year, I know what you mean about finishing a project. There are so many projects I want to try but always seem to have "loaded needles", in the middle of a scarf or hat. -- Jan

I know I have some cross stitches that a are lot older the one year.
ReplyDeleteAh, I have to plead guilty to that too! I started a cross stitch for my friend's little boy when he was born and only finished years later! He's now 16 so it had to go to his baby sister instead :-)

If you don't finish your socks maybe you won't have to think of anything else..hehe! Maybe next you could knit a scarf to match your socks..a lovely cosy combo, all you'd need is a hot chocolate and a great movie for a winter afternoon of simple pleasure.

Oh forget year old WIP - I have a 2 year old WIP. I got it down from the top of the wardrobe the other day, only to discover that I had a tiny bit left to do, then it would be finished....I still haven't done it and think guiltily about it from time to time...

Ahh, the old 'finish one project before you start another' thing. I am totally rubbish at that! Anyway, it is too logical and boring for my flitting crafty mind. I think the tea cosy idea is a lovely one, or maybe wrist warmers - they are very in at the mo!

Those socks look like they will be really cosy. I've got loads of quilty WIPS, that have sat for ages, but I'm determined to get them finished soon. xx
